Who We Are

The Wood Lab is a family business founded on a father and son's shared love of beautiful, well-crafted furniture. A quality piece of furniture will last for decades and develop its own story over time. It's our goal to create timeless and original designs, with heirloom-level build quality, at an accessible price for the new generation of homemakers.

Our first collection of pieces is inspired by a 1909 Popular Mechanics handbook on Mission Furniture. Seeing potential in a foundational design language which has stood the test of time, we have set out to modernize the style and give new life to a familiar, but often overlooked aspect of American furniture history.

“Chance only favours the prepared mind” - Louis Pasteur

A lifelong DIY home project hobbyist, in 2023 Ken left his 30+ year career in the biopharmaceutical industry and devoted his energy to expanding his woodworking skills. Serendipity stepped in when Thomas returned home after college and started sketching Mission furniture designs. After many late night discussions, The Wood Lab was born!

Outside the shop, Ken and his wife Mary love hiking and camping in the beautiful forests of the Pacific Northwest.

  • Thomas Weese

    DESIGNER

Thomas, 22, was 14 when he was first introduced to design as a way to solve problems. He received his BS in User Experience Design from Purdue University in May of 2023, and has been working with Ken on The Wood Lab ever since.

A lover of animated film, music on vinyl, and the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright, he is fascinated with what makes art and design truly timeless.
